Give me that book, or else....

I'll admit it. I'm a nerd. My idea of a romantic date would involve the two of us sitting on the floor of a Barnes & Noble reading random pages out of books to each other. Actually, that's also my idea of a fun Saturday afternoon alone.

As a 4th grade latch key kid, I spent most of my afternoons hanging out at the library next to my elementary school. Although I had a key to my house, I wasn't allowed to go home until 30 minutes before my mom got home from work. Mom thought I'd burn down the house if I was there for 3 hours by myself after school. So the librarians served as my pseudo baby sitters. I'd do my homework, then wonder around reading books, magazines, whatever I could find to entertain myself. As a result, I'm now a voracious reader. I LOVE reading books. And I'm a speed reader, so I'm constantly on the hunt for a good book.

My sister, Erin, gets nervous whenever I come over to her apartment and she has a new book sitting around. She knows I'll want to borrow it and read it in a day-beating her to the ending. The two of us are quite competitive. So when I ask sweetly to borrow it, she'll refuse. I'll complain and tell her I'll return it tomorrow. She'll adamantly say no. Then I'll negotiate some sort of deal with her-because I MUST read that book!

The two books on my night stand right now are Mika Brzezinski's "Knowing Your Value: Women, Money, and Getting What You're Worth" and "Bossy Pants" by Tina Fey. I've been wanting to read Tina Fey's book ever since I started working in Improv and Comedy. I'm looking forward to seeing how she navigated the comedy world, especially as a woman.

I stumbled upon Mika's book yesterday at B&N. Once I picked it up, I couldn't put it down. My interest was definitely sparked because of my current job, working in the newsroom at KABC-Los Angeles. I watch the smart, beautiful, hard-nosed reporters doing their thing at the news desk, while I type away stories about Marc Anthony & JLo, and what movie is pulling in the most at the box office. Once upon a time, I imagined myself as one of those hard-nosed reporters. Then I realized I'd have to work in markets like Tuscaloosa or Walla Walla, Washington and decided I'd stick to the stage and acting. But here I am now, a reporter of sorts. It's funny how life works.
